Construction Estimators compile cost and quality of construction projects. Negotiating with and hiring subcontractors and working with engineers, architects and vendors. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Estimating Duties:
  1. Prepares bids and cost estimates that address every part of a building project.
  2. Calculates the total cost of building projects.
  3. Oversees and consults with salesman and draftsperson for development of prints.
  4. Helps keep building projects within the client’s budget limitations.
  5. Makes sure that all cost estimates submitted by a contractor are as accurate as possible.
  6. Examines buildings that are in poor condition to determine the costs of repairs.
  7. Works with surveyors to estimate the types and amounts of materials needed to complete the construction job.
  8. Estimates the cost of equipment needed for a job.
  9. Estimates costs of inclement weather and unforeseen events.
  10. Consults with experts to get advice on difficult cost estimations.
  11. Estimates labor costs for a project.
  12. Evaluates the cost effectiveness of a product’s use and makes changes where necessary to improve overall cost effectiveness.
  13. Develops complete budgets and plans for projects.
  14. Tracks all costs from the inception of the building project to its conclusion.
  15. Re-figures cost estimates when necessary.
  16. Submits customized reports to clients.
  17. Offers advice to contractors as to whether or not it is cost effective to try different materials or products.

  1. High school diploma or greater.
  2. Trade school, 2 year.
  3. Good understanding of construction processes and building science.
  4. Two to three year experience working in the construction industry.
  5. 1 year estimating experience
  6. OSHA 10 hour certification.

  5. enforcement of site cleanliness, safety, health, and substance abuse programs

  8. maintaining QC/QA files and updating as-built drawings
